Multi-hospital health system Penn State Health has agreed to acquire Holy Spirit Health System from Geisinger, with formal agreements set to be finalised in the coming days.
The acquisition will cover Holy Spirit Hospital in Camp Hill, affiliated outpatient practices and urgent care centres in Cumberland, Dauphin, Perry and York counties. It also includes the Ortenzio Heart Center and the West Shore EMS assets.
Geisinger invested more than $120m in Holy Spirit, recruited approximately 100 new providers and added or expanded services such as trauma, stroke and diabetes care since October 2014.
Also, Holy Spirit and Penn State Health already work together on neurosurgery and cardiac surgery programmes.
Penn State Health CEO Steve Massini said: “The addition of Holy Spirit enhances Penn State Health’s ability to provide a robust network of clinical services in and around the greater Harrisburg region.
“Holy Spirit’s hospital, employed medical group and strong community of independent practice physicians, working in collaboration with our Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, offers consumers a strong competitive alternative for healthcare services.”
