Google Cloud is set to invest $100m in telehealth solutions provider Amwell to scale its telehealth portfolio for providers, insurers and patients in existing and new markets.
The investment, subject to closing of Amwell’s initial public offering, is part of the companies’ strategic alliance to expand virtual care, patient and clinician experiences.
As part of the multi-year collaboration, the partners will leverage their respective capabilities, including Google Cloud artificial intelligence and machine learning technologies, to offer new healthcare solutions.
The focus will be on technologies for automated waiting room and checkout, automated language translation services, and assisting payers and providers in routine tasks, among others.
Also, the companies aim to facilitate healthcare to seniors and patients with chronic illness in a new approach that will not compromise care quality or user trust.
Google Cloud CEO Thomas Kurian said: “This is a critical partnership for the healthcare industry and has the potential to dramatically transform the telehealth space through the use of modern cloud technologies.
