Scunthorpe General Hospital and Diana Princess of Wales Hospital in Grimsby, UK are set to receive new accident and emergency (A&E) departments.
Subject to planning permission and consultation, the new departments are expected to open in 2022. The new facilities will be supported by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC) funding.
At Scunthorpe, a new department will be constructed on the site that is currently used as a car park at the Cliff Gardens side of the hospital.
Meanwhile, the existing emergency department in Grimsby will be upgraded and also extended at the front.
Each emergency department will be connected to purpose-built acute assessment units (AAUs) to improve patient care and flow through the hospitals.
The DHSC has agreed to provide £8m for the projects. In November last year, a strategic outline case (SOC) was submitted to NHS England/Improvement seeking £24.8m in capital funding for the two new AAUs.
