A coalition of health care organisations in Philadelphia, US have partnered to transform Mercy Catholic Medical Center on the Mercy Philadelphia Campus.
The coalition comprises Public Health Management Corporation (PHMC), Penn Medicine, Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic and Independence Blue Cross.

With the transformation, the partners aim to offer improved and equitable care in the West Philadelphia region and surrounding community.
The operations will focus on a patient-centered approach to medical care and social services. Also, Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is considering provision of paediatric behavioral health services on the campus.
Under the proposed project, PHMC will own and operate the existing Mercy Philadelphia facility, while leasing the space to community partners.
In addition, PHMC will lease space to Penn Medicine to operate the facility’s emergency department and associated inpatient medical and behavioral health beds.

By GlobalDataPenn Medicine will run this as a remote location for the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania (HUP). It plans to deliver onsite and remote inpatient care through services from HUP and Penn Presbyterian Medical Center.
Independence Blue Cross will work on community-based, non-profit social services, while the current hospital owner Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic will continue its health care and social service programmes.
The partners intend to offer primary and community care, emergency services, limited acute care and expanded behavioral health services, along with additional social support services.
Some acute care beds will be preserved for supporting the emergency department. However, providers will seek to connect patients to primary and community care providers.
University of Pennsylvania Health System CEO Kevin Mahoney said: “We are committed to finding new solutions to ensure that West Philadelphia residents can easily receive health care services – especially from primary care providers, whose help provides the foundation for good health across all the regions we serve.”
Trinity Health Mid-Atlantic commenced initial work on this project earlier this year after it announced plans to transform the Mercy Philadelphia Campus from an inpatient hospital.
