Officials of Marshall Medical Center South have broken ground on a $61m expansion and renovation project at the hospital in Boaz, Alabama, US.
The project includes relocation of Marshall Medical Center South’s main entrance to the north end of the hospital and the new entrance will comprise a new drop-off canopy, reported WHNT-TV.
It also includes addition of 125 parking spaces, ground floor expansion to house several facilities, such as a cafeteria, coffee café, conference room, restrooms, and a gift shop.
The renovation project also covers addition of updates to the second and third floors of the hospital.
Once complete, the second floor will feature a check-in and consultation room for outpatient surgeries.
In addition, an 18-bed intensive care unit (ICU) and a 32-bed inpatient section, as well as an area for endoscopy procedures will be built on the third floor, reported the television station.

According to the hospital officials, paperwork associated to the expansion’s bed tower part is still in pending status with the State of Alabama.
Marshall County and Huntsville health authorities had granted approval to the project last year. The Huntsville Hospital Health System controls Marshall Medical Center South.
Works under the project are expected to complete in 36-40 months.
