Mount Desert Island (MDI) Hospital in the US has acquired the Aplio 500 Platinum ultrasound system from Toshiba America Medical Systems to perform more non-invasive exams and improve patient care.
The hospital will use the Aplio 500 Platinum ultrasound system’s advanced visualisation technology, including Shear Wave elastography, to measure liver tissue elasticity and help diagnose patients with hepatitis C.
Aplio 500 Platinum combines advanced visualisation technology, workflow automation tools and ergonomics to reduce operator steps.
MDI Hospital Medical Imaging director Dr John Benson said: "We needed an ultrasound system with superior image quality that would give MDI Hospital a competitive edge in the surrounding area and offer our clinicians the information needed to help make the right diagnosis on all patients, every time.
"The Aplio 500 Platinum provides clear images that allow our staff to visualise anatomy using ultrasound to reduce invasive procedures, which helps improve patient care.
"We have access to local Toshiba service staff that monitors our system to reduce system downtime, along with education and training for our sonographers."

By GlobalDataAplio 500 Platinum features clinical imaging tools, which allows the hospital to non-invasively measure tissue stiffness of the liver.
According to MDI, micro-vascular imaging (SMI) allows clinicians to see small blood vessels and visualise low-velocity microvascular blood flow without the need for radiologic contrast agents or more invasive modalities. MicroPure provides better visualisation of breast microcalcifications compared to gray scale imaging.
The system also includes the company’s iStyle productivity suite and an adaptable user interface, that delivers workflow automation tools for more efficient and precise exams.
