Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia opens human milk bank for infants

The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) in the US opened the first human milk bank in the region for hospitalised infants.

Developed in co-operation with the Human Milk Banking Association of North America (HMBANA), the CHOP Mothers’ Milk Bank (MMB) offers donor human milk to infants at CHOP’s main campus.

HMBANA is an organisation that sets the standards and guidelines for non-profit donor milk banking in North America.

TeamHealth acquires IPC Healthcare for $1.6bn

US-based TeamHealth Holdings completed the acquisition of national acute hospitalist and post-acute provider IPC Healthcare for $1.6bn.

The deal combines two physician-centric organisations to create a national physician services organisation spanning multiple specialties in both hospitals and post-acute facilities.

The combined company will have 16,000 healthcare professionals to effectively manage patients across the continuum of care and it enables TeamHealth to reduce costs, increase quality and provide better patient services.

UK’s King’s College Hospital launches new hospital and clinics in Dubai

UK teaching hospital King’s College Hospital launched a new facility in Dubai, UAE, which will expand its services.

Under the new $200m project, all staff and services will be fully integrated with King’s College Hospital’s facilities in London to provide quality, evidence-based healthcare to the UAE.

Kings College Hospital Dubai will be staffed by a significant proportion of experienced clinicians from the UK.

CPSI agrees to buy Healthland Holding and affiliates for $250m

Computer Programs and Systems (CPSI) signed a deal to buy Healthland Holding and its affiliates, Healthland, American HealthTech and Rycan Technologies for $250m.

The acquisition will strengthen CPSI’s capabilities in providing healthcare information solutions to community healthcare organisations, including 1,200 combined hospital customers.

Healthland offers electronic health records (EHR) and clinical information management solutions to more than 350 hospital customers. American HealthTech provides clinical and financial solutions in the post-acute care sector, serving 3,300 skilled nursing facilities.

New medical and dental centre opens at RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire, UK

US Air Force (USAF) personnel can receive better healthcare at a new medical and dental centre, which officially opened at RAF Croughton in Northamptonshire, UK.

The two-storey clinic features facilities such as a pharmacy and laboratory. It will mainly operate as a GP’s surgery and dentist centre to provide services for US military personnel and their families.

Covering an area of 2,170m², the centre includes staff and an administrative area, pharmacy and dispensing rooms, patient examination areas, clinic support rooms, office areas for senior medical staff, medical operations reception area, dental treatment rooms, and a laboratory.

Boston Children’s partners with Fractured FX to develop next-generation patient models

SIMPeds, Boston Children’s Hospital’s simulator programme, collaborated with special effects company Fractured FX to develop ultra-realistic models of patients’ anatomy for surgical and medical training.

The new models or simulators will allow clinicians to practise and rehearse difficult or complex medical procedures without any risk to patients.

Fractured FX will be responsible for managing manufacturing of the models, which will be commercially offered to other medical centres over the next year by Boston Children’s.
