Philips Hybrid OR

Royal Philips has signed an agreement with Catharina Hospital for the installation of its advanced medical technologies at the hospital’s new cardiovascular centre in the Netherlands.

The cardiovascular centre is currently under construction and is scheduled to open in mid-2016.

Under the technology partnership, the hospital will have access to the latest technologies for image-guided minimally invasive treatment of patients with cardiovascular disease.

"The cardiovascular centre at Catharina Hospital is being transformed into a specialist top clinical centre."

The deal will help the hospital to strengthen its position as the Netherlands’ leading specialist referral and treatment centre for this patient group.

The new centre is being built to help the hospital provide integrated care for the diagnosis and treatment of patients.

Catharina Hospital noted the new centre is designed to offer personalised treatment with short access times and high levels of quality, cost efficiency and patient satisfaction.

The deal will see Philips equip the cardiovascular centre with five complete advanced interventional rooms and two hybrid ORs, which will be a combination of a conventional sterile operating room and a room for minimally invasive image-guided treatment.

Philips will equip all rooms with innovations in interventional imaging and clinical IT solutions for the latest types of image-guided treatment.

Catharina Hospital CEO Piet Batenburg said: "The cardiovascular centre at Catharina Hospital is being transformed into a specialist top clinical centre where, as part of close partnerships with other hospitals, people from all over the south of the Netherlands can be treated using the very latest image-guided procedures for cardiovascular disease."

Upon completion, all interventional rooms of the centre will feature Philips’ technology that reduces the amount of x-ray radiation used during procedures by 83% of that previously required, without adversely affecting image quality.

The clinical IT being installed includes live 3D navigation solutions such as Philips’ EP Navigator, HeartNavigator and EchoNavigator.
