US-based Beacon Health System has proposed to expand the Memorial Hospital in South Bend, Indiana, with an estimated investment of $240m.
Beacon Health System, which owns multiple hospitals in Indiana including Beacon Children’s Hospital, has submitted an application to Regional Economic Acceleration and Development Initiative (READI) to secure funding for its proposed project.
The proposed 211,500ft2 Memorial Hospital expansion will see development of a new patient tower as well as a trauma centre, and upgrades across the hospital.
As per the plan, the hospital expansion is expected to increase patient care, while creating nearly 590 direct jobs within the hospital.
The hospital was founded in 1894 as a short-term acute care hospital, and now it has over 500 beds.
Beacon Health System also proposes to construct a $60m ‘Integrative Health and Lifestyle District’ just south of the hospital.
