US-based Carolinas Medical Center-Union (CMC-Union) has opened a new 87,000ft² women and children’s centre, at its hospital in Monroe, North Carolina.
CMC-Union is part of the Carolinas HealthCare System.
The facility is part of an expansion project that was carried out with an investment of $57m, reports Charlotte Business Journal.
A paediatrics unit with 13 rooms was also built, in addition to the women and children’s centre, to expand services in the hospital.
Carolinas also added 25 medical and surgical beds at the hospital.
The new facility features 24 labour, delivery, recovery and postpartum suites. The hospital had labour and delivery rooms requiring patients to be transferred into different rooms after delivery.

Lutes added: "What we really want to do is meet the growing needs of Union County."
CMC-Union also collaborated with Carolinas HealthCare’s Levine Children’s Hospital in Charlotte, in a bid to offer additional paediatric services.
