The University of California, San Diego (UC San Diego) in the US has broken ground on its hospital revitalisation project at Hillcrest campus.
Set to involve an investment of $2.5bn to $3bn, the revitalisation project will be executed in five phases over a period of approximately 15 years.
The first phase of the project will see the creation of 250,000ft2 outpatient pavilion which is anticipated to open in 2025.
Once opened, the new structure will be home for various specialty clinical programmes including oncology, neurosurgery, urology, otolaryngology and orthopaedics.
It will also feature ambulatory surgery operating rooms, gastroenterology procedure rooms, advanced imaging, infusion and radiation oncology.
The outpatient pavilion will also have space for multispecialty cancer clinics and infusion centres, which will enable UC San Diego Health, and its National Cancer Institute-designated Comprehensive Cancer Center to further improve access to cancer care throughout the region.
