Memorial Health, a non-profit, 622-bed tertiary care hospital located in Savannah, Georgia, has announced a partnership with Novant Health to establish a $28m freestanding children’s hospital to serve south-eastern Georgia and southern South Carolina.
The partnership will consolidate paediatric services in the building that currently houses Memorial’s Rehabilitation Institute.
The new hospital, to be named The Children’s Hospital of Savannah, will house all paediatric inpatient units, a paediatric intensive care unit, a two-room surgical suite, paediatric ancillary services, a 24hr emergency department dedicated exclusively to children, and family support space.
Memorial Health president and CEO Maggie Gill said that Memorial has been the leader in children’s healthcare in south-east Georgia since 1992.
"This collaboration will create a new and unique presence for our children’s hospital, bringing together more than 20 pediatric subspecialties under a single roof," Gill added.
Under the agreement with Novant Health, Memorial will provide executive leadership for The Children’s Hospital of Savannah and will continue to manage operations, while Novant Health and Memorial Health will share strategic planning and governance.

By GlobalDataNovant Health president and CEO Carl S Amato said the organisation is excited to partner with Memorial Health to grow clinical services and create a destination location for children’s healthcare.
"This partnership demonstrates our ongoing support of Memorial Health and Savannah," Amato added.
The Children’s Hospital serves about 65,000 children each year, of which more than 6,500 are in-patient admissions. There are about 44 general pediatricians and 35 subspecialists who treat at Memorial.
Paediatric subspecialties include paediatric cardiology, paediatric critical care, paediatric endocrinology, paediatric ENT, paediatric gastroenterology, paediatric hematology/oncology, paediatric neurology, paediatric neurosurgery, paediatric surgery, and paediatric urology.
The Children’s Hospital also includes the region’s only Level III neonatal intensive care nursery, staffed around the clock by board-certified neonatologists.
Memorial’s Rehabilitation Institute’s inpatient services will continue to be a valuable and much-needed service for patients in the region but these programmes will relocated to the third floor of Memorial’s main hospital building.
