The global healthcare industry noticed a 12.9% drop in IT hiring activity in April 2022 over the previous month, led by CVS Health’s 10.61% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 8.35% when compared with March 2022.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.52% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in April 2022, up 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of April 2022 were 13.76% lower when compared with the previous month.
The decrease was a result of 27.98% higher job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 45.45% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in April 2022, a 30.62% decline over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 16.85% in April 2022, down 35.5% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 15.7% share in April 2022, a decline of 23.49% over the previous month, and Miscellaneous Computer Occupations with a 12.58% share in April 2022 and a drop of 49.72% over March 2022.
Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in April 2022
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average decline of 46.35% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during April 2022 over March 2022.
CVS Health posted 231 IT jobs in April 2022 and registered a rise of 8.96% over the previous month, followed by Apria Healthcare Group with 225 jobs and a 50.55% decline. Oak Street Health with 146 IT jobs and Intermountain Healthcare with 95 jobs, recorded a 3.95% decline and an 81.94% drop, respectively, while McKesson recorded a 9.09% drop with 60 job postings during April 2022.
Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in April 2022 with a 95.36% share, which marked a 37.5% drop over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 3.03%, registering a 24.14% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 1.33% share and a 16% rise over March 2022.
In the fourth place was South & Central America with a share of 0.18% and a month-on-month drop of 60%. Middle East & Africa stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.09%, registering a 75% decrease over the previous month.
