The state of Ohio, US, had 290 hospitals with 49,177 available beds, in 2021.
The city of Cleveland is home to three of the ten biggest general acute care hospitals in the state while Columbus and Cincinnati each house two of the state’s top ten hospitals. The remaining three biggest hospitals are in Toledo, Dayton and Canton.

1. Cleveland Clinic Main Campus – 1,294 beds
The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus, located in Cleveland, is the biggest general hospital in Ohio, with 1,294 beds.
The multi-specialty teaching hospital is one of the 15 hospitals run by the non-profit health system, Cleveland Clinic, in north-east Ohio. The health system also operates five hospitals in Florida, with more than 1,000 beds.
The Cleveland Clinic Main Campus ranks among the US’s top ten hospitals in 11 specialties, including cardiology and heart surgery, geriatrics, rheumatology, urology, gastroenterology and gastrointestinal (GI) surgery, gynaecology, cancer care, and pulmonology and lung surgery. The 1,059-bed OhioHealth Riverside Methodist Hospital, located in Columbus, is the second biggest general hospital in Ohio, by bed size.

The University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, located in Cleveland, is a tertiary teaching hospital having 1,032 beds.
Affiliated to the Case Western Reserve University, it is the flagship medical campus of University Hospitals, a non-profit health system based in northeastern Ohio.
Cleveland Medical Center also houses the UH Rainbow Babies & Children’s Hospital and the Seidman Cancer Center. Designated as a Level 1 trauma centre, the multi-speciality hospital is run by Promedica, a non-profit healthcare network comprising 11 hospitals across north-west Ohio and south-east Michigan.

Located in downtown Dayton, the Miami Valley Hospital is an 848-bed acute care facility run by Premier Health.
Premier Health is a private, non-profit healthcare system operating five inpatient hospital campuses in south-west Ohio.
Miami Valley Hospital is recognised as the region’s only adult Level I trauma centre, as well as a comprehensive stroke and burns centre in the region. 7. Aultman Hospital – 820 beds
The Aultman Hospital, located in Canton, is a general medical and surgical facility having 820 licensed beds.
It is the flagship campus of Aultman Health Foundation, a non-profit healthcare provider serving Stark, Carroll, Wayne, Holmes and Tuscarawas counties in Ohio.

8. MetroHealth Main Campus Medical Center – 731 beds
The MetroHealth Main Campus Medical Center, located in Cleveland, has 731 beds. It is the flagship hospital campus of MetroHealth, an integrated health system that operates four hospitals, four emergency departments and more than 20 health centres in Ohio’s Cuyahoga County.
The MetroHealth Main Campus hospital is known for emergency care and comprehensive medical and surgical specialities related to cardiovascular, cancer and senior health care, as well as stroke management and rehabilitative health care.
