By GlobalDataDeveloped at GE Healthcare’s global centre of excellence for monitoring solutions in Helsinki, Finland, Portrait Mobile features a patient-worn wireless sensors that communicate with a mobile monitor.
It helps in capturing respiration rate, oxygen saturation and pulse rate for general ward and post-surgery patients continuously, thereby giving clinicians to act early and avert serious adverse events.
The company said that its technology is as reliable as the wired technology and can be easily integrated with hospital’s existing network infrastructure, thereby reducing installation and maintenance costs.
GE Healthcare Finland Engineering director Erno Muuranto said: “In an evaluation clinical study conducted at a London hospital in the UK, 90% of nurses reported that they feel more reassured about their patient’s condition when continuous monitoring is used versus vital signs spot check measuring.
“Portrait Mobile provides reliable measurement technology and meaningful alarms in a mobile setting.”
GE said that its new health monitoring device allows patients to move around the hospital, without being restricted to the bedside.
The mobility is expected to improve patient outcomes, and reduce the need for a lengthy stay at the hospital.
Earlier this month, Orillia Soldiers’ Memorial Hospital in Canada installed Encompass, a GE Healthcare real-time location system.
The new technology was deployed as part of hospital management’s efforts to improve patient experience.
