Royal Edinburgh Hospital’s £48m redevelopment plan gets approval from Scottish Government
NHS Lothian received approval of the Outline Business Case (OBC) from the Scottish Government for the £48m first phase of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital development.
Phase one of the Royal Edinburgh Hospital’s redevelopment project could now begin by the end of the year. The projected timescale for completion of phase one is 2016, while the entire project may take up to ten years.
Phase one includes a state-of-the-art facility which would provide acute mental health care. The proposals also include an intensive psychiatric care unit (IPCU) and new Robert Fergusson national brain injury unit.
University Health System and Conifer Health Solutions sign revenue cycle management agreement
University Health System selected Conifer Health Solutions, a healthcare services company, for comprehensive revenue cycle management operations at its 452-bed University Health Shreveport and 247-bed University Health Conway.
Under the terms of the contract agreement, Conifer Health will provide its revenue cycle management expertise to help the newly formed health system to focus on its mission of providing the finest patient experience and improving the health of the community it serves.
The patient-centric services delivered by Conifer Health will include medical eligibility and financial counselling, denials prevention and management and accounts receivable management aimed at improving patient experience, cutting costs and enhancing yield.

Dorchester hospital to open new endoscopy unit
Dorset County Hospital, an NHS district general hospital in Dorchester, Dorset, UK, announced the unveiling of its new state-of-the-art endoscopy unit.
The unit is still in its original location in the Dorchester hospital’s north wing but has benefited from extensive building and refurbishment work to improve the facilities and services for patients.
The unit comprises three new treatment rooms as well as recovery rooms, a reception and waiting area, and administration and decontamination areas.
Miami Children’s Hospital announces expansion of emergency department
Miami Children’s Hospital, a 289-bed hospital in South Florida, announced the opening of 20 new exam rooms in its emergency department, one of the most preferred paediatric emergency rooms in the state and the region’s only emergency service exclusively for children.
The opening of the new exam rooms is part of an expansion project aimed at meeting the growing needs of the community.
Technology and digitisation have been enhanced at the emergency department. In addition, an expanded waiting area with family group seating options and colourful entertainment zones for children of all ages has also been added.
Walnut Hill Medical Center set to open in April 2014
It was announced that Walnut Hill Medical Center (WHMC), a 100-bed full service hospital located in Dallas, Texas, is slated to open in April 2014 at the north-east corner of Walnut Hill Lane and Greenville Avenue.
The new eight-storey, 200,000ft² facility will provide a wide range of medical and surgical services including cardiovascular, gynaecologic, imaging, general surgery, emergency medicine and intensive care.
The facility encompasses 84 private patient suites, a 16-bed intensive care / critical care unit, ten-bed full service emergency department, six operating suites, cardiovascular operation room (OR), five cardiovascular suites, two cardiac catheterisation labs, two electrophysiology labs, one hybrid suite and a sleep laboratory.
Scripps Health breaks ground for new health care facility
Scripps Health, a non-profit health care system based in San Diego, California, broke ground on the Scripps Clinic John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion.
Once completed, the Scripps Clinic John R. Anderson V Medical Pavilion will be used for speciality services like cardiology, gastroenterology, pulmonology, neurology, nephrology and endocrinology.
The $175m medical office building will serve as an integral part of the master plan to transform the Scripps Memorial Hospital La Jolla campus.
Northwestern Memorial HealthCare, Cadence Health explore formal affiliation
Northwestern Memorial HealthCare (NMHC) and Cadence Health signed a letter of intent to enter a period of exclusive discussions to form an integrated academic healthcare delivery system.
Cadence Health is corporate parent to Central DuPage Hospital and Delnor Hospital.
It also includes Cadence Physician Group, a local network of more than 250 primary care physicians and specialists on the medical staff at CDH or Delnor Hospital.
