The global healthcare industry noticed a 2.6% rise in IT hiring activity in December 2021 over the previous month, led by Intermountain Healthcare’s 10.58% share, according to GlobalData’s Jobs Analytics database.
The healthcare industry’s overall hiring activity declined 1.02% when compared with November 2021.
Noticeably, IT jobs accounted for a 1.29% share of the global healthcare industry’s hiring activity in December 2021, up 0.06% over the last three-month average share.
According to GlobalData, IT job opportunities available at the end of December 2021 were 4.04% higher when compared with the previous month.
The increase was a result of 8.81% lower job postings as compared to job closures during the month.

Software and Web Developers, Programmers, and Testers with a share of 46.6% emerged as the top IT occupation in the healthcare hiring activity in December 2021, an 8.94% growth over the previous month. Computer and Information Analysts came in second with a share of 14.93% in December 2021, up 7.18% over the previous month.
The other prominent IT roles include Computer Support Specialists with a 13.17% share in December 2021, a growth of 16.11% over the previous month, and Database and Network Administrators and Architects with a 12.51% share in December 2021 and a rise of 1.4% over November 2021.
Top five healthcare companies by recruitment activity in December 2021
The top five companies, in terms of number of jobs as tracked by GlobalData, accounted for a combined average growth of 67.11% share in the overall IT recruitment activity of global healthcare industry during December 2021 over November 2021.
Intermountain Healthcare posted 307 IT jobs in December 2021 and registered a rise of 1818.75% over the previous month, followed by CVS Health with 208 jobs and a 2.35% decline. Oak Street Health with 161 IT jobs and HCA Healthcare with 146 jobs, recorded a 54.81% growth and a 5.04% rise, respectively, while McKesson recorded an 11.67% rise with 67 job postings during December 2021.
Regional composition of IT hiring in healthcare industry
North America emerged as the leading region in the global healthcare IT hiring activity in December 2021 with a 94.11% share, which marked an 11.16% rise over the previous month.
Asia-Pacific stood next with 3.34%, registering a 32.17% month-on-month decline. Europe was the third leading region with a 2.07% share and a 22.08% drop over November 2021.
In the fourth place was Middle East & Africa with a share of 0.28% and a month-on-month rise of 60%. South & Central America stood at the bottom of the table with a share of 0.21%, registering a 20% increase over the previous month.
