London-based, digital-first home healthcare provider Cera has secured $150m in financing to enhance its artificial intelligence (AI) healthcare platform.
The $150m raised was primarily a mix of debt and equity, with the majority being debt, reported TechCrunch.
The financing was led by BDT & MSD Partners, and Schroders Capital.
Key investors included Earlymarket, Guinness Ventures, DigitalHealth, and Robin Klein, reported Tech Funding News.
This investment increases Cera’s valuation to over $1bn, granting it ‘unicorn status’.
The capital injection will be channelled into expanding Cera’s AI-driven platform, which predicts health deterioration.

By GlobalDataIt will also improve technology capabilities, upskill health workers in AI, and explore international markets following its recent expansion into Germany. In addition, it will help to extend specialised care services, such as nursing and mental health support.
Cera was founded in 2016 by Dr. Ben Maruthappu.
It focuses on digital-first home healthcare solutions to address the healthcare sector’s challenges, especially regarding home care.
Dr. Maruthappu was inspired to start Cera after navigating the complexities of coordinating care for a family member.
Cera founder and CEO Dr. Maruthappa was quoted by TechCruch as saying: “We’re taking pressure off the NHS and supporting it to have more capacity to look after other patients. We’ve also expanded into other service lines, such as nursing services, physiotherapy, learning disabilities, physical disabilities, and providing mental health services in the home as well. So, we’re a much more comprehensive health care at home provider.”
Delivering over 60,000 daily healthcare visits in homes, Cera collaborates with over 150 local governments and two-thirds of NHS Integrated Care Systems.
Its AI-driven platform offers advanced analytics and is claimed to predict over 80% of falls and 83% of hospitalisations a week in advance.
It has also been shown to reduce falls by 20% and decrease hospitalisation rates by up to 70%. These analytics allow specialists to undertake early intervention and prevention strategies.
Cera’s app enables carers and nurses to gather patient data during home visits, which in turn allows them to detect health deteriorations 30 times faster than conventional methods.
In addition, the platform seamlessly integrates real-time communication, care planning, electronic visit verification, medication management, and remote monitoring of patients.
Cera claims to save the UK healthcare system £1m daily by addressing inefficiencies and improving care quality.
