US-based healthcare company Astrana Health has completed its acquisition of Collaborative Health Systems (CHS), a management services organisation, to expand care delivery capabilities.

Formerly part of Centene, CHS served over 129,000 beneficiaries across 17 US states.

The organisation provided comprehensive support to its physician partners, offering management services, risk contracting, and population health capabilities, including actionable data and other tools, to enhance care coordination and address gaps in care.

The transaction, which followed customary regulatory approvals, was initially set in motion with a definitive agreement in July 2024.

With this acquisition, Astrana Health aims to expand both its own and CHS’s payer-agnostic care delivery expertise, serving members across various lines of business.

This move is expected to enhance CHS providers in the delivery of care to communities.

Additionally, the business integration includes a highly complementary provider footprint across several key markets, including Connecticut, Georgia, Maryland, New Mexico, and Virginia.

As part of the deal, Astrana Health will integrate a scaled ecosystem of over 350 primary care physicians in Texas, where Astrana already has a significant presence.

Furthermore, Astrana plans to leverage its Care Enablement platform, which includes a suite of care management tools and technology to advance improvements in patient outcomes and reduce waste in the healthcare system.

These tools include value-based contracting, credentialing, AI-driven population health analytics, NCQA-certified Healthcare Effectiveness Data and Information Set gaps in the care engine, care management, and disease management platform, along with other administrative services.

Astrana Health president and CEO Brandon Sim said: “With the completion of our acquisition of CHS, I believe that Astrana will be even better positioned to deliver accessible, high-quality, and high-value care to local communities and patients.

“CHS has built a scaled and impactful value-based care ecosystem in markets spanning the South and East Coast. Combining Astrana’s robust technology platform and care model with CHS’s strong provider base and deep payer partnerships will accelerate our mutual goal of organising and empowering providers while elevating the healthcare experience for patients nationwide.”
