Avo has announced the launch of Ask Avo, an artificial intelligence (AI) consult tool that integrates directly into Electronic Health Records (EHR) systems and is designed to answer complex clinical questions and automate tasks.
This tool can customise responses using patient data, local demographics, institutional protocols, and up-to-date society guidelines.
Serving as a ‘digital front door’ for clinicians, Ask Avo simplifies the use of complex EHR systems and enables actionable tasks such as patient chart summaries, care gaps analysis, and order placements.
It aims to save time for providers, improve patient outcomes, and offer a single interface for other Avo EHR-integrated workflow tools.
Early adopters of Ask Avo include Driscoll Children’s Hospital, SUNY Downstate, Harbor Health, and NeighborHealth.
The tool is part of the Avo platform, which also includes Avo Pathway and Avo Assistant, aiding in automating tasks like pre-charting and documentation.

By GlobalDataDespite the potential of AI in healthcare, clinicians often question the practicality of such tools, mainly due to issues like lack of EHR integration, one-size-fits-all solutions, and the need for substantial IT resources.
Moreover, the reliability of AI tools has been under scrutiny, with instances of inaccuracy and lack of transparency in guiding clinical decisions.
Ask Avo addresses these challenges by providing customisable, trustworthy responses that do not require manual data entry, thus ensuring efficiency and accuracy. The tool is already integrated with Epic and Athena, with plans for Cerner integration by the end of 2024.
Avo co-founder and CEO Dr Yair Saperstein said: “AI technology can be an amazing asset for clinicians and health systems, but only if done thoughtfully. The Avo team studied the current AI consult tools market and saw a major gap between what the current technology offers and what practitioners actually want.
“Ask Avo was inspired by the ethos of our entire Avo platform – to build tools that clinicians love. With EHR integration, a fully customizable and easy-to-deploy model, and a relentless focus on relevance, actionability, and trustworthiness, Ask Avo is the AI tool clinicians and health systems need.”
Healthcare systems can tailor Ask Avo to their specific needs without extensive IT involvement, thanks to Avo’s back-end Builder.
