The New South Wales (NSW) Government in Australia has awarded the main construction works contract for the redevelopment of Ryde Hospital to Bouygues Construction subsidiary AW Edwards.
The NSW Government will invest A$526.8m ($3.62m) in the redevelopment works.
This project will include the construction of a 40,000m² clinical building housing a new emergency department, theatres, ambulatory care centre, paediatric short-stay unit, a bigger intensive care unit, and medical imaging facility, along with additional adult overnight inpatient beds.
It will integrate with the remaining campus and incorporate the Graythwaite Rehabilitation Centre and Denistone House, a building dating back 146 years.
In line with the Ryde district’s goal of achieving carbon neutrality by 2035, the project will feature sustainable elements, such as capacity for over 100 photovoltaic cells, a green roof, 18 electric vehicle charging stations, and an integrated waste management facility.
AW Edwards started work on the site earlier this year, with the new hospital building expected to be completed by 2027.
