Healthcare AI technology care.ai and the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) have partnered to develop the Smart Hospital Maturity Model.
CHIME, which is an organisation for chief information officers and other senior healthcare IT leaders, will work together with care.ai to offer ‘clarity’ for the complex healthcare technology environment.
According to care.ai, the Smart Hospital Maturity Model emerges as a critical tool for assessing and guiding the progress of healthcare organisations as they navigate the complexities of rapidly evolving technologies, such as ambient sensing, artificial intelligence (AI) virtual care, and patient monitoring.
The Smart Hospital Maturity Model outlines a criteria for what constitutes a ‘Smart Hospital’, enabling facilities to pursue digital transformation with greater clarity.
One of the model’s primary goals is to offer a comprehensive road map that informs hospitals of their current digital maturity level and their desired future state.
The development of the model will be overseen by an advisory panel of health system industry experts.

By GlobalDataThis panel will be led by Steve Lieber, CHIME’s former executive vice-president and chief analytics officer, who contributed to the growth of the Digital Health Most Wired Program and launched CHIME’s Digital Health Analytics Program.
Lieber previously served as the CEO of the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society, where he led the development of the Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model.
The collective expertise of Lieber and other industry experts will help in developing assessment criteria and questionnaires, as well as data measurement methods for the Smart Hospital Maturity Model.
The model will acknowledge the achievements of hospitals in the realm of digital health and offer strategic insights for future developments.
It enables organisations to pinpoint areas in need of improvement and to prioritise their efforts for the most effective digital transformation.
care.ai founder and CEO Chakri Toleti said: “care.ai was founded in 2018, with the pioneering vision of creating a smart care facility platform.
“Now, years later, the need for smart hospitals and the availability of impactful technology has never been greater.”
care.ai recently partnered with Virtua Health to provide its AI enabled virtual care models to enhance the latter’s patient care services.
