Corewell Health is set to inaugurate a new paediatric medical psychiatric unit at its Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan, US.
Scheduled to open this year, the paediatric medical psychiatric unit is claimed to be the first such facility in the state.
The new 12-bed unit will be dedicated to treating children with behavioural health issues alongside additional medical complexities.
It will be staffed by a multidisciplinary team, including psychologists, psychiatrists, medical physicians, child life specialists, nurses, chaplains, pharmacists, and social workers.
The team will focus on creating tailored, comprehensive care plans to address both medical and behavioural health needs.
Financial backing for the unit includes a $5m contribution from the State of Michigan, supplemented by $4m in donations from the community.
