The Western Australia (WA) Government has revealed that the earthworks for the redevelopment of the Geraldton Health Campus are approaching their final stages.
As part of the latest milestone, the initial concrete footings have now been poured.
In the coming months, nearly 70t of steel will be incorporated into the footings, alongside more than 500m³ of concrete.
The project, which aims to cater to the future healthcare needs of the community in the Mid-West region, involves an investment of A$166m ($112m) from the WA government.
It is said to represent the largest single investment in the Geraldton Health Campus to date, significantly expanding the hospital’s footprint by more than 7,000m².
WA Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said: “This project will enhance access to important health services in the Mid-West region, including an expanded emergency department, new intensive care unit, and integrated mental health service.

By GlobalData“The new build increases the existing hospital footprint by over 7,000m², every inch of which will be used to boost services for the local community.”
According to the WA government, the entire revamp project is generating various opportunities for the local as well as Aboriginal suppliers and businesses, that will be mainly tasked with providing traffic management and cleaning services.
In addition, local companies have been contracted to facilitate the related surveying, earthworks, and traffic management.
Geraldton Health Campus’ redevelopment is part of the broader ongoing upgrades that so far have added 400 new parking spaces, delivered the main entrance after redesigning, and established a new ambulance entry.
Completion of the entire redevelopment project is anticipated by 2026.
Upon completion, the project will feature a new intensive care unit, an expanded emergency department, a high-dependency unit, and an integrated mental health service.
This will also include a short new stay unit and an adult inpatient unit, both for mental health services.
WA Premier Roger Cook said: “It’s exciting to see this important project making progress and creating local jobs in the process.
“My government is committed to providing a modern, fit-for-purpose facility for the people of Geraldton and I’m extremely proud to be delivering on that commitment.”
Construction work on the Geraldton Health Campus redevelopment first commenced in June this year.
