South Australia’s Eastwood Private Hospital has achieved a significant construction milestone, with BESIX Watpac, the project contractor, completing the external structure.
BESIX Watpac celebrated the completion of the external structure with Barwon Investment Partners and other key stakeholders at a recent topping-out ceremony.
The new hospital, which is expected to open next year, will alleviate the current strain on the healthcare system significantly.
More than 8,300m³ of concrete have been used in the building’s structure, with the final pour completed earlier this month.
With the external structure now finished, work has shifted to the interior fit-out, which is underway at present and progressing on all levels, alongside the installation of the façade, BESIX Watpac stated.
The hospital’s development is a direct response to the growing need for health services in South Australia.

By GlobalDataUpon completion, Eastwood Private Hospital will offer a wide range of medical services such as a 51-bed ward, a six-theatre perioperative floor, as well as other facilities for medical imaging and pathology.
BESIX Watpac is tasked with carrying out the fit-out work for all corridor and lobby areas, along with the ground level and the third and fourth floors.
These levels will house the perioperative floor and patient ward rooms.
In addition to the hospital facilities, the project encompasses the development of a car park, plant and equipment, courtyards, support services, and external landscaping.
The development will also feature a café and retail space.
BESIX Watpac first commenced the construction of Eastwood Private Hospital in November last year.
BESIX Watpac South Australia manager Craig Bentley said: “Eastwood Private Hospital is estimated to generate A$90m ($60.3m) in economic activity throughout construction.
“The projects BESIX Watpac delivers are a legacy for the communities we operate in, and this extends to high-quality infrastructure that is delivered through to creating opportunities for locals. We’ve engaged over 40 local businesses so far throughout the delivery of this project.”
