US-based pharmaceutical company Eli Lilly has expanded its digital healthcare platform, LillyDirect, to include new telehealth and in-person options for patients with Alzheimer’s disease.

These options aim to improve access to Alzheimer’s diagnosis and management by reducing the long wait times patients often face when seeking care from dementia specialists.

Lilly chief medical officer David Hyman said: “We know that early diagnosis and care can make a big difference for people living with Alzheimer’s disease.

“By expanding this platform, we hope to help patients identify and access additional independent speciality care capacity, which can coordinate with a patient’s existing care team.”

Unlike other services on LillyDirect, the Alzheimer’s disease resources will not provide direct access to Lilly medications, focusing instead on pathways for linking individuals with independent healthcare providers.

The platform now features Healthgrades, a tool designed to connect patients with local clinicians experienced in managing Alzheimer’s disease and using biomarker tests for accurate diagnoses.

LillyDirect continues to offer educational resources to assist those with memory concerns in understanding Alzheimer’s disease, recognising symptoms, and the significance of early diagnosis.

The platform also includes a link to Synapticure, an independent provider specialising in the care of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative conditions.

Synapticure’s telehealth service includes insurance coverage, live video consultations, support for prior authorisations, 24-hour access as needed, and ongoing management of medication and care.

It also offers behavioural health and lifestyle support and coordinates diagnostic tests at healthcare facilities.

Synapticure CEO Sandra Abrevaya said: “We are excited to be added to LillyDirect as a patient option for comprehensive telehealth services for Alzheimer’s patients, especially those in rural and underserved communities.

“By leveraging our experienced team of clinicians and advanced telehealth capabilities, we aim to provide hope and help for patients and their families.”
