Encompass Health has unveiled preliminary plans to construct a new inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Maine, US, designed to cater to patients recovering from debilitating illnesses and injuries

The freestanding, 50-bed facility, expected to open in 2027, will be situated at 1017 Union Street in Bangor and is Encompass Health’s second hospital in Maine.

It will provide care for patients dealing with neurological disorders, brain and spinal cord injuries, strokes, amputations, complex orthopaedic conditions, and more.

The new hospital will also provide 24-hour nursing and a range of therapies.

Encompass Health Group president Pat Tuer said: “We are excited to expand Encompass Health’s presence in Maine to serve patients in Bangor and surrounding communities closer to home.

“We look forward to providing high-quality, compassionate, and individualised inpatient rehabilitative care to help patients reach their highest level of independence.”

The Bangor facility will offer private patient rooms, a therapy gym with advanced rehabilitation technologies, and a daily living activities suite.

Additional amenities will include an in-house dialysis suite, pharmacy, dining room, and therapy courtyard.

The hospital will become part of Encompass Health’s national network, which includes 166 hospitals across 38 states and Puerto Rico.

Last month, Encompass Health opened the 61-bed Rehabilitation Hospital of Houston. Spanning nearly 70,000ft², it is strategically situated in the heart of The Medical Center for seamless patient transfers and visitor access.

Further expansion plans were also revealed during the month, with Encompass Health announcing preliminary plans for a new 50-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital in Wesley Chapel, Florida.
