US-based healthcare company Encompass Health has opened an inpatient rehabilitation facility in Georgia, US, in collaboration with healthcare network Piedmont Healthcare.

The 40-bed Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta is designed to deliver comprehensive rehabilitative services for patients recovering from serious injuries and conditions.

Its primary aim is to assist patients recovering from brain injuries, strokes, amputations, spinal cord injuries and other complex orthopaedic conditions that require them to regain function and independence.

The facility features 40 private patient rooms, a therapy gym with advanced rehabilitation technologies, an in-house pharmacy and a separate dayroom area.

Patients at the hospital will receive at least three hours of intensive therapy for five days a week, as well as frequent physician visits and round-the-clock nursing care.

An interdisciplinary team comprising specialised therapists, physicians and nurses is being employed at the hospital to deliver a range of occupational, physical and speech therapies.

Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta CEO Gina Tipton said: “We are excited to serve patients in the greater Atlanta area through our partnership with Piedmont.

“By providing essential rehabilitation services, we help patients regain function and independence as they recover from major injuries and illnesses. We look forward to positively impacting the lives of many.”

The hospital is the 162nd inpatient rehabilitation facility opened by Encompass Health in the US, with seven of these facilities being located in Georgia.

Piedmont Atlanta CEO Patrick Battey said: “Having a rehabilitation facility on-site at Piedmont Atlanta will make the experience of transitioning to rehabilitation after a hospital stay convenient for patients.

“We look forward to many years of partnership with Encompass Health to provide high-quality, patient-centred care.”

The opening of the Rehabilitation Hospital of Atlanta is a continuation of the joint venture between Piedmont and Encompass Health.

Earlier this year, the two companies received the ‘certificate of need’ for developing a separate 40-bed inpatient rehabilitation hospital on Loganville Highway in Georgia.
