Evelina London Children’s Hospital in London, UK, has adopted Ventripoint Diagnostics’ VMS+ 3.0 system upgrade.

The technology is designed to allow paediatric cardiology teams to accurately measure volumes of all four chambers of the heart using standard 2D echo, with the precision of a cardiac MRI.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital’s adoption of the technology is expected to enhance diagnostic accuracy when providing heart care for children and young people.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital lead physiologist in paediatrics and advanced echocardiography Dr Saleha Kabir said: “Having had experience with the older Ventripoint system, the new VMS+ system with its increased functionality is a great addition to our echo lab.

“The more compact console increases accessibility and mobility which allows us to use it in a variety of settings and the simplified workflow makes image acquisition faster, which is fantastic for our small and easily distracted paediatric patients!”

According to Ventripoint, the VMS+ 3.0 system is designed to create accurate 3D models of the heart from 2D echocardiogram images.

The system runs on the Knowledge Based Reconstruction (KBR) algorithm, which uses an MRI shape catalogue and anatomical landmarks from 2D echocardiogram images to create a complete 3D heart model.

The device includes a sensor tracking system that can be attached to the ultrasound probe, allowing patients to be repositioned during the exam without affecting the results.

This process involves acquiring images, placing points to mark anatomical landmarks, and generating results for volumes and ejection fractions of different phases of the cardiac cycle.

Ventripoint also said the VMS+ 3.0 system can be integrated easily into existing workflows to provide fast and accurate cardiac assessments for patient care.

Evelina London Children’s Hospital treats more than 104,000 children and young people each year, including around 800 babies.

The hospital is one of two specialist children’s hospitals in London.
