Gosford Hospital in New South Wales (NSW), Australia, has launched a cardiac electrophysiology service providing access to cardiac care for Central Coast patients.
Eliminating the need for patients to travel to Sydney or Newcastle, this new service provides diagnostic and therapeutic treatment for heart conditions.
NSW health minister Ryan Park said: “I am pleased this new service will be able to offer local patients access to these important procedures on the Central Coast, making it much easier for them to access the treatment they need close to home.
“Central Coast Local Health District is already receiving very positive feedback from patients about how much they appreciate having the local service available to them.”
Hundreds of local patients each year are expected to benefit from the service, which offers therapeutic ablation for those suffering from right-sided tachyarrhythmias, commonly known as irregular heart rhythms.
Central Coast Minister David Harris said: “It is pleasing the Central Coast community can now access these important cardiac procedures closer to home.

By GlobalData“We know the Central Coast is a high-growth region, and as our population grows, it is essential that we continue to bolster our local healthcare system. Services like this are another step in the right direction.”
Additionally, the service is conducting diagnostic studies, including electrophysiology studies.
These tests evaluate the heart’s electrical system and check for abnormal rhythms in cardiac patients.
Central Coast Local Health District cardiology head Maged William said: “We are thrilled to be able to provide these procedures on the Central Coast.
“Plans are already underway to expand the scope of the service to treat patients with other common cardiac concerns such as atrial fibrillation and ventricular tachycardia.”
