The Maharashtra government in India has given its approval for setting up a 5,000-bed hospital for Covid-19 patients in Mumbai.
The new infectious diseases hospital project won approval from Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray after he conducted a series of meetings with Chief Secretary Sanjay Kumar and Municipal Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal, Deccan Herald reported.
For the Covid-19 hospital, which is expected to come up in the northern suburbs of Mumbai, the BMC’s land acquisition department has invited Expression of Interest and received two bids.
Once the land parcel is finalised, the land under reservations will be acquired under Section 126 (1)(a) & (b) of Maharashtra Regional and Town Planning Act.
Remaining land is planned to be acquired by mutual consent after negotiations.
Besides serving patients of Mumbai, the proposed Covid-19 hospital will cater to patients coming from Mumbai Metropolitan Region (MMR) which consists of the neighbouring districts of Thane, Palghar and Raigad.
