KONE has secured an order to supply elevator solutions for a new emergency hospital in Västerås, Sweden.

Expected to open in 2029, the site will be a modern healthcare hub built by NCC and designed to cater to the region’s future medical needs.

Spanning approximately 75,000m², the Region Västmanland’s new hospital will feature services, including radiology, operating rooms, emergency and maternity clinics, intensive care, and general ward beds.

KONE Europe executive vice-president Nicolas Alchal said: “For doctors and patients to move effortlessly from one care facility to another, hospitals need reliable, high-performing equipment that supports an uninterrupted flow of people.

“The urgency to transport both people and medical devices quickly throughout the hospital becomes even more critical during emergencies. Recognising the delicate nature of this task, we’ve delivered many complex hospital projects before and are privileged to bring our expertise to the new hospital in Västerås.”

KONE’s order includes 15 MonoSpace700 DX machine room-less elevators, three TranSys DX freight and passenger elevators, and two MiniSpace DX high-speed passenger elevators.

The planning phase for the elevator installations is currently underway, with expectations for the solutions to be tested and operational by 2028.

The Västmanland region is the main developer of the project, with NCC Sverige as the primary contractor.

The architectural design was a collaborative effort between Link Arkitektur and Carlstedt Arkitekter.

NCC large projects division manager Tobias Holmqvist said: “The installation process in hospitals is peculiar in that it demands careful coordination within tight construction timelines. KONE stands out as a partner who understands these complexities and supplies the appropriate equipment to support an efficient and operationally sound environment, even with high traffic volumes.”
