Indiana-based not-for-profit health system Margaret Mary Health has unveiled plans to construct a new hospital as part of an expanded health and wellness campus.

It will invest $115m in the project, which represents the first phase of the campus expansion.

The project will include construction of an approximately 124,000ft2 replacement hospital, which will be situated adjacent to the existing Margaret Mary Physician Center and Margaret Mary Outpatient and Cancer Center.

It is claimed that the new hospital will include expanded surgical capabilities, upgraded workflows and energy efficient construction.

Margaret Mary Health president and CEO Liz Leising said: “As the delivery of health care shifts from managing illness to promoting and supporting wellness, the development of an innovative health and wellness campus becomes a critical need.

“Building a new state-of-the-art hospital is the first step in our vision and will serve as the anchor for developing a campus that will help transform our community into a healthier place to live.”

Construction of the new hospital is planned to commence next year and conclude in about two years.

GBBN Architecture has been appointed to lead the design team for the new hospital, while Bruns-Gutzwiller in Batesville and Danis in Cincinnati will manage the construction.

Margaret Mary Health Board chairman George Junker said: “Our current hospital has served the community well for more than 90 years.

“Our goal has always been and will continue to be to provide high quality, compassionate care for community members.”

The health system also noted that the campus expansion project will include expanded green spaces and walking trails.
