Nonprofit healthcare organisation Montage Health has appointed Dr Michael McDermott as its next president and CEO, effective the second quarter of 2025.

The transition comes as Dr Steven Packer prepares for retirement after a 25-year tenure leading Montage Health and the Community Hospital of the Monterey Peninsula in the same roles.

McDermott comes to Montage Health with experience in both medical practice and healthcare leadership.

Trained as a diagnostic and interventional radiologist, he has held the position of CEO at Mary Washington Healthcare in Virginia since 2015.

In addition to his medical qualifications, McDermott holds an MBA from the University of Virginia Darden School of Business.

His academic background includes an undergraduate degree from Villanova University and a medical degree from the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, with training in diagnostic radiology and interventional radiology at the University of Maryland Medical System.

McDermott said: “Although it was a difficult decision to leave an organisation I’ve had the privilege to lead for the past ten years, I am grateful for the opportunity to build upon Dr Packer’s legacy and join Montage Health, a health system I’ve admired for years.”

Packer will continue in his leadership role at Montage Health until McDermott’s tenure begins.
