Mount Sinai Health System has announced the opening of its Center of Excellence for Gynaecologic Cancer in the US.

The new facility is part of The Tisch Cancer Institute (TCI) and offers an extensive range of services, including advanced screening, diagnosis, treatments, and supportive care for gynaecologic cancer patients.

The health system cited the American Cancer Society’s findings, which showcased that around 114,810 new cases of gynaecologic cancers were diagnosed in the US last year.

Symptoms of these cancers can vary, manifesting as changes in menstrual cycles, unusual bleeding, pain during sexual activity, or discomfort in the pelvic area, Mount Sinai added.

The centre is dedicated to diagnosing and treating all types of gynaecologic cancers and addressing noncancerous conditions affecting women’s health.

It is co-directed by Mount Sinai Health System gynecologic oncology director and TCI Women’s Cancers associate director Dr Stephanie Blank and Mount Sinai gynaecologic medical oncology section head Dr Dmitriy Zamarin.

Mount Sinai’s Center of Excellence for Gynecologic Cancers aims to establish new standards in patient care and research.

It combines advanced medical approaches with comprehensive care, ensuring patients receive the most effective treatments available.

Blank said: “The launch of the Center of Excellence for Gynecologic Cancers represents a crucial step forward in our commitment to addressing the evolving needs of our diverse community.

“We want to make sure that cancer patients can live the best life possible. It’s not only about their treatment; we’re talking nutrition, fertility, psychological support, and genetics.”

Moreover, the centre is at the forefront of clinical trials, offering therapies to patients.

These include immunotherapies that stimulate the body’s immune response to cancer and targeted therapies that focus on specific cancer mutations or proteins.

Zamarin said: “By leveraging cutting-edge research and addressing current health trends, we are positioned to offer innovative, effective solutions for gynaecologic cancers with sensitivity to our diverse patient population.

“Our goal is to enhance both quality of care and quality of life for our patients, ensuring that our services are both responsive and proactive with respect to emerging challenges in women’s health.”
