US-based Mount Sinai Health System has announced the opening of the ambulatory surgical facility, Peakpoint Midtown West Surgery Center, in New York, US.

This development aims to broaden access to comprehensive surgical care for both adult and paediatric patients across the metropolitan area.

Located at 787 11th Avenue, the 25,106ft² facility is a collaborative effort between Mount Sinai, Merritt Healthcare and a group of leading surgeons.

The centre is designed to offer advanced procedures in orthopaedic and spine surgery, neurosurgery, and breast surgery fields.

It is also equipped with new surgical technology, including Stryker Mako Robotics, which can conduct total joint replacements, HANA tables for anterior hip replacements, and imaging and pathology tools to support breast and spine surgeries.

Peakpoint Midtown West Surgery Center features four operating rooms and 12 recovery bays and offers 23-hour stays to ensure ample time for patients’ recovery after procedures.

Last month, the health system unveiled a new research facility dedicated to psychedelic-assisted psychotherapy.

Located in Upper Manhattan, the new facility has received a $5m donation from The Bob & Renee Parsons Foundation to enhance therapies for veterans suffering from conditions such as PTSD.

Mount Sinai Ventures managing director and Peakpoint Midtown West Surgery Center president Brent Stackhouse said: “Peakpoint Midtown West underscores our commitment to expanding access to the latest surgical treatments and world-leading medical care for all patients.

“The facility is designed with the patient and surgeon in mind—from the large operating suites with the most advanced surgical technology to the efficient layout and large recovery rooms with beautifully appointed bathrooms and showers. Affiliated and non-affiliated Mount Sinai physicians from across the community will have access to these modern facilities, combined with best-in-class anaesthesia care, to treat and care for their patients.”
