US-based Aultman Hospital is set to implement the Insyte medication logistics solution designed by pharmacy automation solutions provider Aesynt, to reduce supply chain costs associated with medication inventory.
With the Insyte solution, the hospital is looking to manage medication inventory across its eight facilities, including Aultman Hospital, Aultman Orrville Hospital and a range of ambulatory surgery centres, long-term care providers and outpatient clinics.
The solution will enable Aultman Hospital to find expansion opportunities, including potential partnerships with independent hospitals for regional pharmacy distribution models.
Aultman Hospital supply chain, lab and pharmacy vice president Chris Parrish said: "As we continue to explore opportunities beyond our current network, we know it is imperative for our medication inventory to be aligned across all facilities, regardless of the kind of care they provide.
"With the Insyte solution in place, we will be able to identify medication needs and replenish cabinets more efficiently in each facility and ultimately enhance our pharmacy supply chain, one of the highest cost centres in our organisation."
The Insyte solution has been designed to provide real-time inventory visibility and valuation by facility, and by location, virtually eliminating the need for an annual physical inventory.

By GlobalDataThe solution will allow the hospital to provide medications in the lowest unit of measure, rather than in bulk, which helps in decreasing the amount of wasted medications and reducing the manual inter-departmental billing.
Insyte is expected to enable the hospital to eliminate medication shortages by centrally managing available stock across the system, and freeing up pharmacy resources.
Aesynt president and CEO Kraig McEwen said: "In today’s healthcare environment, health system pharmacies are challenged to ‘do more with less’ and are moving toward standardised, enterprise-wide medication management in order to reduce unnecessary expenses while maintaining high quality, patient-centric care.
"By working with Aultman to automate its medication inventory management, we aim to help the health system take a critical look at their pharmacy supply chain so they can meet these increasing financial demands while extending their reach across the state."
