France-based EOS imaging has installed its system at the Pellenberg campus of the University Hospitals Leuven network in Belgium.

The EOS system offers full-body stereoradiographic images of patients in 2D and 3D with 50%-85% less radiation dose than digital radiology and 95% less than basic CT scans, according to the company.

EOS imaging CEO Marie Meynadier said: "Adoption of low dose 2D / 3D imaging has been consistently strong in Europe, and this new installation will continue to strengthen our European market presence."

The new EOS Micro Dose option, approved by US Food and Drug Administration, allows better achievement of as low as reasonably available (ALARA) principle by bringing paediatric spine follow up exams at the dose level.

Claimed to be the largest hospital network in the country, the University Hospitals Leuven includes five separate facilities with 1,995 beds.

The Pellenberg campus meant for orthopaedics is an European Society for Sports, Traumatology, Knee Surgery and Arthroscopy (ESSKA) accredited teaching centre, and is the first University Hospitals to deploy EOS imaging technology.
