HP Labs and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital in Stanford, California, have jointly developed a new real-time patient-centred dashboard to improve patient care.
The digital patient status system uses data from electronic medical records to better represent patient status, replacing the handwritten whiteboards currently found in many nursing units.
The dashboard system helps to prevent human error in medical settings, which can lead to complications and increase the risk of mortality or the duration of a hospital stay.
The dashboard also improves compliance and is designed to be usable in other hospitals in the US and around the world.
HP Labs Healthcare Research director Jaap Suermondt said that through the organisation’s collaboration with Packard Children’s Hospital, it was able to develop a technology solution that finds and combines information at risk of being overlooked deep inside electronic medical records, ultimately helping physicians to prevent complications.
