
Jackson Hospital in the US state of Alabama has added a 3,863ft² facility to its emergency room as part of the hospital’s $7.5m renovation and expansion programme.
The new facility will add nine rooms to the eight rooms already in the ER, bringing aesthetic and additional space, a vacuum tube system to send lab requests and results to and from the laboratory, and an electronic medical record system.
The expansion of the emergency room began in February 2011 and is expected to be completed by the end of May 2012.
The older part of the emergency room will be refurbished to mimic the newer sections’ look, among other improvements, the hospital officials said. At present the older section of the emergency room is renovated and closed, and the newer section will be open for patients during the first week of February 2012, reports jcfloridan.com
