Newark-Wayne Community Hospital in New York, US, has broken ground on a new emergency department (ED).
The $13m project includes a new endoscopy suite and additional space for patient services such as registration, pre-admission testing and a reception area, reports Rochester Democrat and Chronicle.
The ED will have more than double the size of the existing unit and will house 27,000 patient visits a year.
The project will enhance the use of telehealth technology that gives patients remote access to specialists at Rochester General Health System, which Newark-Wayne is part of.
The project is being financed by hospital funds, a state grant, fundraising from the hospital’s foundation and debt, according to Newark-Wayne hospital business development director Doug Stark.
Construction of the facility is expected to take 18 months.
