Skanska and its joint venture partner MAPP Construction have won a $522m contract to build the first phase of the new University Medical Center in New Orleans, Louisiana, US.

The 52,000m² University Medical Center will form a new academic medical care campus.

The contract includes construction of 424-bed inpatient hospital towers, an adjoining 70,000m² diagnostic and treatment centre, and 150,000m² of associated site work, which includes utility and infrastructure installation, lighting, roads and parking.

Construction work on the site has already started, and the hospital is scheduled to open in February 2015.

Skanska’s share of the project is 90%, which amounts to Skr3bn ($470m).
