The four National Health Service (NHS) procurement hubs in the UK have decided to develop a Total Orthopaedic Solutions framework agreement.
The hubs include North of England Commercial Procurement Collaborative (NOE CPC), NHS London Procurement Partnership (LPP), NHS Commercial Solutions and East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub (EOE CPH).
Expected to be developed and delivered by 1 January 2015, the agreement will focus on developing a cross hub specification detailing requirements for the delivery of all orthopaedic products to hub members.
The framework agreement will include lots such as orthopaedic lower limb arthroplasty; orthopaedic extremities; orthopaedic trauma, implants and consumables; arthroscopy/sports medicine; orthopaedic power tools and consumables; bone preparation; and enhanced recovery systems.
Under the framework agreement, the hubs will also address solutions associated with managed services solutions and value added proposals.
NOE CPC managing director Keith Rowley said: "A key objective of this collaboration is to build on the groundbreaking work we have collectively undertaken in other NHS procurement categories and continue to avoid duplication of effort, thereby addressing one of the main areas of concern raised by the DH in its 2013 publication Better Procurement Better Value Better Care."
