US-based The Woman’s Hospital of Texas has opened a new paediatric centre, which provides inpatient and intensive care services for children up to the age of 17.

Located in Houston, the hospital’s new unit comprises space of 24,000ft², including a six-bed emergency department, 18-bed medical and surgical inpatient unit and 14-bed paediatric intensive care unit.

The Woman’s Hospital of Texas CEO Linda Russell said: "The Woman’s Hospital of Texas has long been a leader in providing exceptional care to women and neonates.

"We are proud to expand that level of high-quality care to include our youngest patients by opening the paediatric center."

In addition, the unit will offer a wide range of paediatric specialties for consultation and treatment. The unit comprises cardiology, ear, nose and throat (ENT) surgery, urology and others.

According to the hospital, the centre also includes a special children’s play room and a teen room on the medical and surgical inpatient unit, as well as a waiting room in the emergency department.

Established in 1976, the hospital holds 397 licensed beds, including a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU). It offers services in breast health, imaging, gynecology, obstetrics, high-risk pregnancy and minimally-invasive surgery.
