Oil India Limited (OIL) has reportedly entered a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Assam Medical College and Hospital (AMCH) to construct a new patient care facility in Dibrugarh.

This initiative is part of OIL’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) efforts and aligns with India’s development priorities, which focus on healthcare improvement and reducing inequalities.

The MoU was formalised by OIL’s Resident chief executive, Anfor Ali Haque, and AMCH principal Dr Sanjeev Kakati.

The signing event was also attended by other key medical professionals and senior officials, including OIL’s executive director (HR&FA) Madhurjya Barua and chief general manager (FA) Debashis Bora.

This collaboration involves an investment of approximately Rs89m ($1.06m).

It will lead to the establishment of a 37-bed multi-storied cabin facility for patient care at AMCH, which is a key tertiary care referral hospital in the region.

Currently, AMCH Dibrugarh is the first medical college in the Northeast region of India.

It serves as a crucial healthcare institution for Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, and other neighbouring states.

With the growing demand for subsidized treatment and the need for enhanced infrastructure, the new facility is expected to bolster the healthcare delivery system in Upper Assam, which is within OIL’s operational area.

The proposed patient care facility is designed to provide quality treatment, addressing the need for improved healthcare infrastructure.

This initiative is also in line with the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas (MoP&NG) of the Government of India’s emphasis on promoting ‘health and nutrition’.

Earlier this year, the Government of India laid the foundation stone for the development of the Central Research Institute of Yoga & Naturopathy (CRIYN) and Yoga & Naturopathy Hospital in Assam.
