Connected care experience company Oneview Healthcare has launched its generative artificial intelligence AI (GenAI) assistant ‘Ovie’, designed to offer real-time, tailored assistance to patients and families during their hospital stay.
This technology aims to streamline communication, reduce the workload on nursing staff, and provide a secure, voice-activated assistant to patients and family members for common inquiries and requests.

Ovie is connected to electronic health records (EHR) and other hospital systems, allowing it to understand the patient’s context and deliver responses.
The AI assistant is also capable of communicating in multiple languages, catering to the needs of patients with limited English proficiency.
Should a patient’s request necessitate human intervention, Ovie’s escalation workflows ensure a smooth transfer to either a virtual nurse or a floor nurse, when needed.
The care assistant has a suite of features, including 24/7 virtual assistance and control over the Oneview system through voice commands.
It also connects with clinical knowledge bases to provide authoritative information and includes escalation protocols for additional support.

The assistant is scheduled to make its debut at the upcoming ViVE and HIMSS trade shows, with the first production pilots already lined up at two academic teaching hospitals in the US.

To this end, the company will incorporate feedback from these commercial pilots into the final product and has established an AI governance framework to oversee Ovie’s development and performance.
