Canada’s Ontario Government has announced an additional investment of C$10m ($7.06m) to support the Hamilton Health Sciences’ Juravinski Hospital redevelopment.
This funding aims to enhance specialised adult healthcare services for the Hamilton area.
Ontario health minister and deputy premier Sylvia Jones said: “Our government is making historic investments in Ontario’s health care system to expand access to care and make it faster and easier for people to connect to the care they need, closer to home.
“The new and expanded Juravinski Hospital is just another way we are investing in the health needs of growing communities like Hamilton and ensuring people and families have better access to world-class care for decades to come.”
The government earlier invested C$7.5m in Hamilton Health Sciences.
Hamilton East-Stoney Creek member of provincial parliament Neil Lumsden said: “Our government has made historic investments to improve Hamilton’s health care system, including this additional funding for the Juravinski redevelopment.

The redevelopment will transform Juravinski Hospital into the largest inpatient facility in south-central Ontario, with over 500 inpatient beds.
A new patient care tower is planned, which will add more than 100 new inpatient beds in single-patient rooms, increasing the space available for patient care by 70%.
The expansion includes the renovation and enlargement of infrastructure to support a surge in outpatient care and support programmes.
These programmes encompass general and orthopaedic surgery, intensive care, adult cancer and general medicine.
Additionally, modernisation efforts will include updates to the emergency department, enhancing the overall patient and family experience in revitalised spaces.
Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre serves as a critical acute hospital facility, offering urgent and emergency care, general medicine, critical care and specialised surgical programmes including orthopaedics and adult cancer care, serving Hamilton and the surrounding areas.
