Queen’s Hospital, Romford has extended its catering, retail and soft services FM contract with Sodexo for the next five years for an investment of £140m.
As part of the contract, Sodexo will implement new portering and cleaning technology in the hospital.
Since 2006, the hospital has been under contract with Sodexo as part of the company’s PFI contract with ProjectCo and Barking, Havering and Redbridge University Hospitals NHS Trust.
To improve patient flow, especially in the emergency department, the new contract will see the launch of new portering technology in the facility.
Sodexo Healthcare CEO UK & Ireland Philip Leigh said: “We are delighted to extend our contract at Queen’s Hospital, Romford.
“We will continue to work closely with the Trust to improve patient flow and support its objective to support early discharge from hospital.
“Patient experience is at the heart of what we do and we look forward to working with the Trust in the delivery of a number of significant projects planned over the coming years.”
To support the hospital’s net zero plans, Sodexo has switched waste partners with a company that offered a local processing service.
This move has resulted in a significant reduction in CO2 emissions and transport mileage for the hospital.
In September 2021, Sodexo launched Protecta to eliminate healthcare-acquired infections in hospitals and achieve the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness.
