American businessman Scott Rechler and his wife Debby have donated $10m to the Feinstein Institutes for Medical Research and Northwell Health to establish the Scott and Debby Rechler Center for Health Outcomes.
The centre will leverage large-scale data models and artificial intelligence (AI) tools to address healthcare disparities and patient risk factors.
This gift will also create the Scott and Debby Rechler Professor of Health Outcomes and support the recruitment of a leader for the centre.
The centre aims to identify areas for healthcare improvement, detect patterns of health decline in patients, and implement proactive outreach, particularly for underserved communities, with Northwell Health’s patient database, quality of life research, and AI technologies.
With 11 million people in its service area, over two million patient visits, and 5.5 million patient encounters annually, this gift positions Northwell Health to transform the current healthcare model and address health disparities, rising costs, and lower life expectancies.
The Rechlers’ contribution will fund the hiring of data scientists, health economists, and scientists to analyse data and identify trends for personalised care.

By GlobalDataNorthwell recently launched the Northwell Health Vital Sign programme, which collects quality-of-life data from patients through regular questionnaires in multiple languages.
Leveraging AI, this data will help researchers and healthcare leaders address patient concerns and deliver proactive care.
The Rechler Center for Health Outcomes aims to use technology, quality-of-life data, social need mapping, and evidence-based practices to transform patient care.
This gift from the Rechlers is said to align with Northwell Health’s mission to deliver more equitable care.
The data collected is secured and complies with necessary standards, and AI will support research, trends, and optimal treatment, without replacing the expertise of healthcare professionals.
This donation advances Northwell’s Outpacing the Impossible campaign, which aims to raise $1.4bn to enhance hospitals, clinical programmes, research, and endowment.
Since the campaign’s launch, over $200m has been raised for Northwell’s endowment programme.
