US-based integrated healthcare delivery network Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System has selected Omnicell to provide pharmacy services and medication management at its flagship research and teaching hospital, Spartanburg Medical Centre.
Omnicell will also provide services to Spartanburg Regional’s newly acquired Mary Black campuses.
The new medical centre will incorporate automation solutions designed to enhance quality and safety across existing and newly acquired facilities of Spartanburg Regional.
Omnicell’s automation and cloud-based predictive intelligence solutions enable Spartanburg Regional to strengthen medication management and increase pharmacy performance.
Spartanburg Regional is the new healthcare system to partner with Omnicell.
In June, Omnicell launched Autonomous Pharmacy vision, a roadmap designed to develop a zero error, fully automated medication management infrastructure.

By GlobalDataSpartanburg Regional intends to launch a centralised distribution centre as the primary hub for pharmacy supply chain management. Omnicell’s XR2 Automated Central Pharmacy System, a robotic system designed to automate critical workflows, will be crucial to operations in the new centre.
The XR2 pharmacy system will be used to maximise inventory control, and increase efficiency and medication safety.
It will also be capable of using health data analytics through Omnicell Performance Center, which combines a cloud-based predictive intelligence platform and expert services that control pharmacy operations.
Omnicell system director of Pharmacy Phil Humphrey said: “With the rising cost and complexity of managing medications across our health system, we need to better understand patient utilisation and the impact on total cost of care.
“Through this extended partnership, we will have the knowledge and technology to support our clinical and operational goals.”
Spartanburg Regional will use Omnicell’s XT Series Automated Dispensing Cabinets to improve workflow efficiency for nursing and pharmacy, in patient-centric areas. These cabinets will also increase medication accountability and patient safety.
Omnicell executive vice-president of marketing, strategy, and business development Nhat Ngo said: “By enhancing their existing automation footprint with the most current Omnicell solutions, Spartanburg Regional has the opportunity to leverage technology to free up clinical staff.
“Allowing clinicians to practice at the top of their license will ultimately have great impact on patient care and satisfaction.”
